Public and shared mobility carries most urban trips in well-functioning European cities — and increasingly, the ticket, journey planner, and fare cap live in one app. Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) brings public transit operators, car-sharing, bike-sharing and ride-hail under a unified surface, while open-data standards like NeTEx and SIRI keep operators interoperable across borders.

Leading deployments include Whim (Helsinki), Jelbi (Berlin), Mobilleo and the MaaS Alliance reference deployments across continental Europe. EU programmes such as CIVITAS, Horizon Europe MOVE21 and EIT Urban Mobility fund replication, while regulatory work — including the Multimodal Digital Mobility Services regulation — tries to keep the interface fair to public operators.
