Stockholm Wood City is the world's largest urban wooden construction project, spanning 250,000 sqm across 25 blocks in Sickla, southern Stockholm. Developed by Atrium Ljungberg and designed by Henning Larsen and White Arkitekter, it creates a mixed-use neighbourhood with 7,000 offices, 2,000 homes, restaurants, and public areas.
Construction uses fire-proofed mass timber (CLT) from Swedish forests to minimise embodied carbon. Energy comes from rooftop solar with batteries, underground borehole storage, and shared production systems.
Groundbreaking began in 2025, with full rollout over ten years. The project demonstrates how timber construction at scale can dramatically reduce climate impact whilst creating vibrant, healthy living environments.
