WISTA Management GmbH is the development and operating company for the Berlin Adlershof Science and Technology Park, one of Germany's largest and most successful integrated science, business, and media locations. The company is wholly owned by the State of Berlin and manages a 4.2 square kilometre campus that hosts more than 1,200 companies and scientific institutions employing over 24,000 people.
Adlershof has evolved from a former East German research campus into a globally recognised innovation district, combining six non-university research institutes, six Humboldt-Universität departments, and a dense cluster of technology startups and SMEs. WISTA's management covers infrastructure development, site marketing, tenant support, and innovation programme coordination.
For the smart city domain, WISTA operates Adlershof as a living laboratory for urban technology. The campus features the Energienetz Adlershof smart energy network, intelligent LED street lighting, a LoRaWAN IoT infrastructure, and the Adlershof Combined Energy Facility (CHP). WISTA has also piloted urban computing applications including environmental monitoring, smart parking, and building energy optimisation.
WISTA collaborates with Technologiestiftung Berlin, Fraunhofer institutes, and the Berlin Senate on projects that test new urban technologies at scale before wider city deployment. The Adlershof model — integrating research, industry, and education on a single campus with smart infrastructure — has been studied as a reference case for science-driven urban innovation across Europe.
