Swobbee is a Berlin-based climate technology company founded in 2020 that builds and operates battery charging and swapping infrastructure for light electric vehicles (LEVs) including e-cargo bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, and other micro-mobility vehicles used in urban logistics and last-mile delivery. The company's modular swapping stations allow fleet operators and individual riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in seconds, eliminating the downtime and safety risks associated with conventional charging. Swobbee's infrastructure is manufacturer-agnostic, supporting multiple battery formats through a modular station design deployable at logistics hubs, retail locations, and public spaces. The system integrates intelligent energy management software that optimises charging cycles, monitors battery health, detects suspicious batteries early, and enables participation in smart grid balancing. Swobbee describes itself as the European market leader in battery charging and swapping technology for LEVs. The company has grown its network to over 100 stations globally. After successfully completing a pilot programme with the City of New York in 2024, Swobbee began rolling out its service in the United States in 2025, partnering with SINBON Electronics to expand battery swapping infrastructure across New York City — addressing fire safety risks from unregulated e-bike charging. In Berlin, Swobbee powers a shared e-moped rental service using Yamaha NEO electric scooters. The company is backed by EIT InnoEnergy and other investors. By decoupling batteries from vehicles and managing them centrally, Swobbee reduces total cost of ownership for fleet operators, extends battery lifespan through optimised charging, and claims CO2 emission reductions of up to 87 percent compared to conventional operations. The startup sits at the intersection of smart mobility, urban logistics, and distributed energy infrastructure.
