Merantix

Merantix is a Berlin-based AI venture studio and investment platform that builds and scales artificial intelligence companies across multiple verticals. Founded in 2016, Merantix operates a dual model: Merantix Capital, which functions as both a venture studio creating AI startups from scratch and a venture capital arm investing at pre-seed and seed stage, and the Merantix AI Campus, a 6,000m² physical hub in Berlin that houses over 80 AI teams with more than 1,600 members.

The AI Campus, launched in April 2021, serves as one of Europe's largest dedicated AI ecosystems, bringing together startups, established companies, investors, and academic researchers under one roof. It hosts over 300 events per year, including workshops, demo days, and networking sessions that connect the Berlin AI community with international partners and capital. Tenants span applications from autonomous driving and medical diagnostics to logistics optimisation and climate technology.

Merantix's venture portfolio includes companies relevant to urban innovation. Vara uses deep learning for breast cancer screening. Cambrium develops sustainable biomaterials using AI-driven molecular design. Briink provides ESG reporting tools using natural language processing. Other ventures apply machine learning to manufacturing, logistics, and environmental monitoring — areas with direct smart city applications.

The organisation plays a significant role in Berlin's positioning as a leading European AI hub. It contributes to the ecosystem alongside institutions such as BIFOLD, DFKI, and the Einstein Center Digital Future. Merantix also engages with policymakers on AI governance and has participated in consultations on Germany's National AI Strategy. The group has raised a €30M fund and built nine companies, including two exits.
